Stian Sviggum, Nord Pool's Chief Operating Officer from 1 October 2024, heads the team that runs Nord Pool’s intraday, continuous and day-ahead market clearing. He describes the team as “extremely knowledgeable and committed every day, every hour and every minute to contributing to well-functioning European electricity markets.” Stian first joined Nord Pool in autumn 2022 as Chief Financial Officer, coming from the position of Chief Risk Officer in Euronext Securities. Holding a strong leadership profile and overview of the business, this energetic and passionate COO is responsible for running critical infrastructure for the energy industry and providing the best products and services to Nord Pool's customers. “My focus is to ensure a stable and robust operation of all our markets. In a time with many changes in market design and high levels of technological development, it is particularly important to ensure a stable operating organisation,” he says. Prior to Euronext, Stian had the role of Enterprise Risk Management Director in PwC, as well as Operational Risk Manager at Norges Bank Investment Management. Holding an engineering degree (MSc) in Theoretical Physics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Stian also has a technical background as an IT Project Manager in Hewlett-Packard, before taking on the role of Head of Risk Management Consulting in Aon. At Nord Pool, his responsibilities encompass Risk Management and Clearing & Settlement, both closely linked to Nord Pool’s Operations. In addition, Stian is head of Administration and Human Resources. “I enjoy embarking on complex challenges and having a varied range of responsibilities,” he explains. “I get to contribute to the running of the business from A to Z and have a unique insight into how we work, from strategy to operations and customer care.” On his most recent role as COO, Stian highlights one of his primary tasks: “I will continue to enhance our highly skilled operations team, to ensure that it remains both adaptable and exceptional in managing our daily operations. Additionally, I am committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and safe organisational culture where employees feel empowered and motivated, with a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.” Characterising himself as a ‘people person’, Stian supports Nord Pool’s 160+ employees in 10 countries. “I enjoy working with and learning from colleagues. This is especially rewarding in a diverse company like N. “I am very passionate about diversity in our people. I strongly believe that this is a catalyst for innovation and growth.” |
