The transmission system operators Fingrid and Elering are pleased jointly to announce, as of 9 December 2013, the successful system testing of the EstLink 2 interconnection between Estonia and Finland. The final tests on EstLink 2 will now continue with capacity available for the Nord Pool Spot market in a trial operation period until 6 February 2014, when the link is officially opened.
Commenting on the approaching opening, Nord Pool Spot CEO Mikael Lundin said: “Nord Pool Spot wants to congratulate Fingrid and Elering on this achievement. The EstLink 2 interconnector will nearly triple the transmission capacity between the Baltic and Nordic countries, which is of great importance in achieving a liquid, efficient and secure Nordic/Baltic power market. The opening also marks a significant step towards meeting the goals of the European Union’s Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan (BEMIP), which aims to integrate Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia with EU energy networks and markets.”
