The 10 appointments cover Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, GB, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Sweden and signify Nord Pool Spot’s ability to meet the new Network Guidelines on Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management (CACM), which came into force on 14 August this year.
Welcoming the NEMO designations Mikael Lundin, CEO at Nord Pool Spot, said: “Acceptance as a NEMO in these 10 markets is an important milestone for Nord Pool Spot. We have pioneered the concept of market coupling and cross-border services in the Nordics and been at the forefront of the discussions around market integration for Europe. This gives us the opportunity to bring our knowledge and expertise to market participants and TSO’s in a wide variety of European markets. We look forward to serving our customers, both established and new.”
Decisions on NEMO designations are still awaited from Belgium, Poland and Germany, where Nord Pool Spot has applied for NEMO designation.
The CACM code sets the rules for cross-border electricity trading in Europe. It sets rules for cross-border capacity allocation in the day-ahead and intraday time frames, rules for congestion management and methods for calculating capacity across bidding zones. As a designated NEMO, under CACM, Nord Pool Spot will have responsibility for a variety of roles with regards to market coupling.
