Nord Pool Welcomes New Owner
As has been widely reported in the news media, Nord Pool has welcomed the agreement by the pan-European exchange group Euronext, to acquire 66% of the share capital and voting rights in the company.
Kari Ekelund Thørud, CEO of Nord Pool, commented: “At Nord Pool we continuously adapt to evolving market demands and strive to deliver simple, efficient and secure power trading to our customers. I am sure both customers and partners will see positive results from Nord Pool becoming a part of the Euronext family.”
The transaction, which is subject to regulatory and competition approvals, is expected to be completed in Q1 of 2020. You can read more here.
Expanded Cross-Border Intraday Trading
As a Nominated Electricity Market Operator in 15 countries, Nord Pool is pleased to have played its part in the successful go-live of the second wave of the cross-border Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC - formerly XBID), last month. The SIDC second wave go-live expanded the continuous trading of energy to include: Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovenia.
A third wave is expected next year. To find out more about the benefits of trading intraday with Nord Pool, contact: support@nordpoolgroup.com.
UMM Update - Nordic TSO Outage Information
From Tuesday 3rd December the Nordic Transmission System Operators have an outage message system (NUCS). All customers already using Nord Pool’s well established UMM platform will have the Transmission Outage Messages, Offshore Grid and other Market Information Messages available in the TSO system collected and republished by Nord Pool as usual, at no additional cost.
We aim to continue to be the leading transparency platform in the Nordic/Baltic region, making available all relevant unavailability information for the Nordic and Baltic region. Our proven UMM system will fully support your compliance needs as it has always done.

Welcoming ElecLink interconnector
As you may have read in the New York Times Nord Pool’s European Market Coupling Operator (EMCO) business has completed the IT implementation to support day-ahead implicit auctions on the new 1GW ElecLink interconnector between the UK and France.
On ElecLink’s go-live in 2020, Nord Pool’s EMCO business will provide shipping services to help facilitate ElecLink’s regulatory obligations under EU Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management guidelines.
These services will enable the capacity on ElecLink to be factored into the day-ahead trading activity of the GB and wider European electricity market, giving better utilisation of interconnector capacity.
Richard Sarti, Nord Pool’s Director UK and Ireland, said: “Nord Pool is immensely proud to have been part of this unique engineering project. Successful delivery of this reflects the close collaboration between Nord Pool and ElecLink, a partnership we look forward to continuing, as well as marking a new milestone for Nord Pool in the UK. The 1GW cable will be a welcome addition to the 3GW which Nord Pool already provides services to, as part of the UK’s power market coupling arrangements.”
