Nord Pool Spot has received the following information from Svenska Kraftnät:
Due to plans for uprating the nuclear power station Forsmark 3, building a wind farm near Gävle and increasing the existing DC link to Finland (Fenno Skan), Svenska Kraftnät will need to reinforce the 400 kV grid in northeast Svealand during the period 2008-2012 as follows.
A new switching station Ängsberg will be built near to the existing station Stackbo west of Gävle. The station will initially have 4 line-bays for 400 kV and 2 shunt capacitors for reactive power compensation. The construction will start in summer 2008 and commissioning is planned for summer 2010.
A new switching station Finnböle will be built at Hedesunda about 30 km southwest of Gävle. The station is needed to be able to connect the second pole of the increased HVDC-link between Sweden and Finland (Fenno Skan 2). The station will have 4 line-bays for 400 kV and a 400 kV connection to Fenno Skan 2. The construction will start in summer 2008 and commissioning is planned for summer 2010.
The increased power transmission demands in the area also require that Svenska Kraftnät upgrade one of the existing 400 kV lines between Stackbo and Hamra. This project will be carried out in two or three stages during the period 2010-2012.
No restrictions of trading capacity during the construction period can be foreseen.
