Nord Pool Spot has received the following message from Svenska Kraftnät:
The SouthWest Link will be built as a three-legged transmission link, in star connection with a multi-terminal converter station in the center, within Sweden and between Sweden and Norway. The transmission link will be built as an AC overhead line between the middle of Sweden and Småland and as a VSC HVDC link from Småland to the south part of Sweden and between Småland and Norway.
The driving force behind the investment is to increase security of supply and to increase the transfer capacity between the new, from November 2011, bidding zones SE3 and SE4 in Sweden and between SE3 and NO1 in Norway.
The rated power of the VSC HVDC connections and the multi-terminal converter will be 1 400 MW. New max NTC values between the bidding zones are not yet determined.
The Swedish part of the transmission link is planned to be commissioned at the end of 2014 and the Swedish-Norwegian part of the link will be commissioned at the earliest in the end of 2016.
